SFM and LANDER strengthen their partnership with a complete train simulator overhaul

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) and LANDER Simulation & Training Solutions have been immersed in close collaboration since 2011, fully focused on training excellence and continuous improvement. In this new phase of our joint efforts, SFM has once again entrusted LANDER to carry out a complete overhaul of their train simulator, making it among the most advanced in the country.

The work undertaken represents comprehensive modernisation efforts to guarantee the system's operability for many years to come. This technological upgrade does not just affect the simulator's core; it also touches upon all the other elements that make up the training experience — from the software and interface to the content and virtual environments.

One of the main improvements is the inclusion of CAF's new train, which has recently been added to SFM’s fleet. This new train model was added to the simulator with the highest level of detail, both visually and in terms of dynamic behaviour, allowing drivers to learn under conditions identical to those of real-life operation. In addition, a complete upgrade of the existing trains has been carried out, modernising their graphical representation and behaviour to maintain consistency and fidelity throughout the system.

Thanks to the implementation of the latest Unity graphics engine, the simulator now reaches a new standard of realism. Virtual lines have been rebuilt using high-resolution textures, state-of-the-art 3D modelling, and fully updated railway signalling, offering a much more immersive and accurate training experience.

Another key aspect is the renovation of the instructor interface. LANDER has designed a more modern, visual, and intuitive platform that allows for streamlined session management, the introduction of variations in real time, in-depth analysis of student performance, and easier monitoring of training. In addition, the catalogue of simulated breakdowns and technical faults has been expanded, providing training in complex operational situations with greater versatility and realism.

This ambitious update ensures the simulator's continued use as a key tool for SFM's train driver training in the coming years. The investment not only guarantees the system's technological relevance, but also strengthens its capacity for future adaptation, laying the groundwork for long-term, high-level, and sustainable training.

With this project, SFM is strengthening its commitment to modern, rigorous, and safe training. Likewise, LANDER is consolidating its position yet again as a leader in railway simulation nationwide, offering tailored solutions that evolve with customer needs and set the standard for the industry.

We at LANDER appreciate SFM's continued trust and are excited to keep building the future of railway training in Spain by their side.
