Grupo Estrella Blanca: over 75 years of entrepreneurship and innovation

Grupo Estrella Blanca, a Mexican bus passenger transport company founded over 75 years ago, has embarked on the latest stage in its illustrious history with the unveiling of its new Operator Training and Professionalisation University, which includes a recently-installed high-tech driving simulator.

It is a company which has been characterised since the outset by this pioneering spirit of innovation. Towards the end of the thirties following the Mexican revolution, the company entered a period of strong development, with the transport sector one of many to experience steady expansion.

During this period the governors of the states of Hidalgo and Querétaro fostered the creation of transport companies to improve inter-city connections including the "Sociedad Cooperativa de Transportes Nacionales del Centro Estrella Blanca", which brought together several entrepreneurs keen to grow their businesses and assist the country's development.

This is how they succeeded in obtaining permission to transport passengers on the Mexico City-Pachuca-Querétaro route. And even without having a vast fortune at their disposal, they managed to raise thirty four thousand pesos, which, along with a loan they secured, was sufficient to buy six Ford buses with twenty- and twenty-five seat bodies.

On the morning of 15 September 1940 the company sold the first ticket of the multitude it has sold over the decades up to the present day.

Over the years the company grew by adding new partners to the project such as Transportes Chihuahuenses in 1978 and Tres Estrellas de Oro in 1994 and creating new brands such as Turistar in 1989, which offers executive service, and Futura in 1992, which provides a first-class service and is currently the group's largest brand. In 2011 Grupo Estrella Blanca went a step further by creating its Select service, which has buses equipped with cutting-edge technology for supreme levels of safety and comfort.

Driven by this spirit of innovation and a plan to achieve steady growth, the Group began operating in central and western Mexico before expanding into the north of the country and the Gulf coast and then the south, in this way building an extensive network which now serves twenty six Mexican states.

The company's new driver training and professionalisation university, which boasts a driving simulator supplied by Lander, embodies the spirit of the company's 75-year history of entrepreneurship and innovation, and it is hoped that this new project will provide the necessary impetus to rise to the major mobility challenges of the 21st century.

Everyone at Lander would like to congratulate Grupo Estrella Blanca on its new simulator and wish the company an equally successful next seventy five and many more years.
