Leipzig, Germany's simulation hub

It has been more than two years since LVB and LANDER joined forces to create a reference centre for tram drivers in Germany. These were difficult times: pandemic, general uncertainty in Europe, hard times for transport operators all over the world… However, that year LANDER was delighted to see how the majority of transport companies responded to this uncertainty with great responsibility with a commitment to the future, to improving and professionalising the movement of thousands of people on a daily basis.

Needless to say, LVB was one of those companies. An operator that not only maintained that commitment, but along the way managed to organise the famous TramEM (Tram Europameisterschaft or European TramDriver Championship) in the midst of many doubts about its feasibility due to the last throes of the pandemic. The TramEM not only took place, but was a success and showed LVB for what it is: a European tramway reference and a hub to which many other operators turn to for inspiration, support and advice or even to train their drivers.

When we started this project to create with LVB one of the best simulation systems in the world, we knew that the road ahead was not going to be easy due to the global situation. But the reality is that LVB's persistence, its enthusiasm and its conviction that public transport must continue to evolve, have made this project one of the most successful in our 20-year history. It has also strengthened the great relationship we have with the team from the beautiful city in Saxony.

Last September saw the completion of the installation of the training centre, which includes:

  • 2 training stations with replica cockpit of the Solaris Tramino vehicle
  • 1 training stations with replica cockpit of the Bombardier XXL vehicle
  • 2 instructor stations
  • 2 state-of-the-art observation stations with SmartBoard
  • Simulation of a large part of the tramway network of the city of Leipzig

And we couldn't be happier with the end result. Above all, because LVB has taken such great care to make it a benchmark, the outcome could not have been any different. From now on, Leipzig will have a classroom with a very picturesque exterior of the highest quality, and an elegant interior that will enable it to continue to serve as a link and reference point for tramway operators in the region. They also have the best team to carry this out; but anyway, we already knew that.

Many thanks to LVB for these wonderful years of work!
